ST NINIAN  – feast Day 16th September

St Ninian, is Scotland’s first known saint, living  and sharing the Gospel   around   397AD.    we don’t know a lot about him apart from his visit to Rome, his association with St Martin of Tours ( that’s why so many churches are dedicated in the name of St Martin throughout Scotland) and his building of a White House or Candida Casa at Whithorn.

From the 7th century people made pilgrimages to St Ninian’s shrine in Whithorn believing that God’s healing power could be experienced there.  The pilgrimage, a sociable and  a prayerful occasion, was re-established as a national event in 2024.

May we who have inherited  his faith  share his hope of eternal life.
