(Ecumenical) Morning Prayer in Season of Advent 2
December 8th 2011

Hymn

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart,
naught be all else to me save that thou art;
thou my best thought by day or by night,
waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

Be thou my wisdom,  thou my true word,
I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;
thou my great Father, I thy true son;
thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one.

High King of heaven , my victory won,
may I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s sun!
heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

Collect for the Day (said by all)

Almighty God,
you have made us and all things to serve you,
now prepare the world for your rule.
Come quickly to save us,
so that wars and violence shall end,
and your children may live in peace,
honouring one another with justice and love;
though Jesus Christ
who lives in power with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God now and forever. Amen.

Psalm 126

When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion,
we were like those who dreamed.
Our mouths were filled with laughter,
   our tongues with songs of joy.
Then it was said among the nations,
“The LORD has done great things for them.”
The LORD has done great things for us,
   and we are filled with joy.

 Restore our fortunes, LORD,
like streams in the Negev.
Those who sow with tears
   will reap with songs of joy.
Those who go out weeping,
carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
   carrying sheaves with them.

Reflection

Prayers of Intercession

Almighty God, in this season give us grace to wait for your message that we might faithfully serve you.
Lord, show us your way

Help us to tell this wonderful story of Coming that others might hear the Good News.
Lord, give us voice to proclaim your love

Many are struggling with health issues or personal worries, O God,
help them to experience your peace.
Use us, O God, to bring your peace.

There is excitement in the voii9ces of the young as they prepare to celebrate Christmas
May we help them to understand your gift for them and all humanity.

By your great mercy help us to live good lives
as we await the coming of Christ again to be our judge,
Lord, have mercy upon us.

now and always.
