Bulletin and Mass for Palm Sunday 28th March 2021
Palm Sunday Mass at 6.00 P.M. Saturday evening and at 10.30 Sunday Morning.
The Palm Sunday Mass will be a bit shorter and simpler. There will be no procession with palms and we will use the short form of the Passion reading.
The Parish Penance service will take place on the Monday at 7.00p.m. and there will be no individual confessions because of the pandemic restrictions
During his homily, or sermon during mass, the Pope said: “Return to your father who is waiting for you. The God of tenderness will heal us; he will heal us of the many, many wounds of life and the many ugly things we have done. Each of us has our own!”
The homily reflected the emphasis that Pope Francis has put on forgiveness and mercy during his seven-year pontificate. God welcomed every repentant sinner with open arms, he said. “It’s like going home.”
Stations of the Cross: we usually share a Stations of the Cross with Kinning Park Parish Church and Ibrox Parish Church on the Wednesday of Holy Week. This is not practical this year but there is a Video Stations of the Cross on the St Leo the Great Facebook which you might like to share.
Seven Last Words: there is also a video version of the Seven Last Words on the St Leo the Great Facebook which you might like to share.
The Mass of The Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday will be simplified – no washing of the Feet, and no Altar of Repose in the hall..
The Good Friday Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion at 3.00 will also be shortened – we may not ‘kiss’ the cross but we can venerate it observing the rules about distancing.
The Easter Vigil at 8.30 on the Saturday Evening will also be much shortened but it is the church’s great Mass and we will do our best to make it an occasion of remembering, joy, and renewal of faith.
No Easter Egg hunt this year! But there are plans for ‘something else’ and artistic creativity is at work.
Radioalba.org will have a special Stations of the Cross and a ‘Seven Last Words’ and I hope that we will put these two services and perhaps some special Morning Prayers for Holy Week onto the St Leo the Great Facebook.
Palm Sunday Mass: The congregation is invited not to sing.
Hosannah to the Son of David. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Blessing of Palms as people hold them up

Christ humbled himself but God raised him high
Psalm 21: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
All who see me deride me. They curl their lips, they toss their heads.
“He trusted in the Lord, let him save him, let him release him if this is his friend.”
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Many dogs have surrounded me; a band of the wicked beset me.
They tear holes in my hands and my feet;
and I can count ev’ry one of my bones.
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
They divided my clothing among them. They cast lots for my robe.
O Lord do not leave me alone; you are my strength, make haste to help me.
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
I will tell of your name to my brethern and praise you when they are assembled.
you who fear the Lord, give him praise; all sons of Jacob, give him glory.
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
