 The Archdiocese of Glasgow. A Designated religious charity, No SCO18140            Priest: Fr Gerry Fitzpatrick

 22nd Sunday of the Year C      August 29th  2010

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart,naught be all else to me save that thou art;
thou my best thought in the day and night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

 Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word, I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;
thou my great Father, and I thy true son; thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one.

 Be thou my breast-plate, my sword for the fight, be thou my armour, and be thou my might,
thou my soul’s shelter, and thou my high tower, raise thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

 Dunkeld Gloria

 Reading I: Sirach 3:17-18, 20, 28-29

 Psalm 66: May he bless us and keep us, may he give us his peace.

God, be gracious and bless us, let your face shed its light on us.
So may your ways be known on the earth, all nations find your help.
May he bless us and keep us, may he give us his peace.

Let the nations exult with joy for you rule us with justice.
Let all the peoples praise you, O God, let all the peoples praise.
May he bless us and keep us, may he give us his peace.

 Reading II: Hebrews 12:18-19, 22-24a

Alleluia, alleluia.  Alleluia, alleluia.
 Go make disciples of all the nations.  I am with you to the end of time.
Go make disciples of all the nations.  I am with you to the end of time.
Alleluia, alleluia.  Alleluia, alleluia.

 Gospel: Luke 14:1, 7-14

Creed

 Intercessions

For the Church: that we may grow in our awareness that everything is gift and that all we have and all we accomplish, flow from God gifts to us.  Lord, hear us

For the grace of humility: that we come to a deeper understanding and ownership of our gifts and weakness and place these in the service of God.  Lord, hear us

For a greater spirit of hospitality: that all people may find welcome and inclusion in our worship, in our social gatherings, and in our service activities. Lord, hear us

 For people affected by flooding in Pakistan.

The Preparation  of Gifts:

Be still, my soul: the Lord is on your side; bear patiently the cross of grief and pain;
leave to your God to order and provide; in every change he faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: your best, your heavenly friend through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: your God will undertake to guide the future as he has the past.
Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake, all now mysterious shall be clear at last.
Be still, my soul: the tempests still obey his voice, who ruled them once on Galilee.

Eileen Duffy writes:  We have been advised that the Great Scottish Swim has been cancelled, due to the presence of the highly toxic, blue-green algae. The organisers were hopeful that the event could be rescheduled but this has proved impossible.  I am also training for the Dublin Marathon (Mon 25th October),  so I will use this as a Plan B-if the swim event cannot take place.
