The annual Mass for Peace at 6.00 on 31st December

Mass for Peace 2019

Intercessions

Father,

We acknowledge your love for the whole human family
And we pray today for those
who live amidst violence, oppression and war.
Comfort those who suffer,
Change the hearts of those who use violence or force
instead of dialogue, charity and the search for justice
as a way of solving national or international problems.
Help us and people everywhere
To learn the meaning of compassion, justice, and mercy,
And to be capable of giving and of receiving forgiveness and peace.

We place the candles before the altar during the silence after each intercession

For all nations affected by war or civil violence: including the Holy Land,  the Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Myamar, the Ukraine, and the troubled countries of Africa….. .   Peace for your people: Let there be peace.

For the United Nations, the industrialised countries plus Russia, China, Brazil and India,  the European Community and all the other rich and most powerful countries: that they may accept responsibility for the common good.
Peace for your people: Let there be peace.

For the Church and the churches – that they may try to work together and give a better witness to the teachings of the Gospel.
Peace for your people: Let there be peace.

For our own country, for the governments in London and Edinburgh, for our national banking and commercial institutions, for all schools, colleges and universities:  that they may promote justice and peace.
Peace for your people: Let there be peace.

That we all may take account of climate change and the need to care for the world in how we conduct our lives.
Peace for your people: Let there be peace.

For our own families and community:
Peace for your people: Let there be peace.

Finally we pray:

May he support us all the day long
till the shadows lengthen,  and evening comes,
and the busy world is hushed,
and the fever of life is over,
and our work is done.
Then, in his mercy,  may he give us a safe lodging,
a holy rest,  and peace at last.
