spirit; and renew the gifts of the Spirit within us so that we may build up the
Christian community, and promote the common good.
Lord, hear us

Ecumenical Morning Prayer 3rd Thursday of Advent 2011
December 14, 2011
Sherbrooke St Gilbert’s and St Leo’s
Thursday 15 December 2011
Morning Prayer
Hymn
O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
O come, O come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel,
that mourns in lonely exile here until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
O come, thou Rod of Jesse, free thine own from Satan’s tyranny;
from depths of hell thy people save, and give them vic’try o’er the grave.
Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
O come, thou dayspring, come and cheer our spirits by thine advent
here; disperse the gloomy clouds of
night, and death’s dark shadows put to flight;
Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel shall come to thee, OIsrael.
O come, thou key of David, come and open wide our heavenly home;
make safe the way that leads on high, and close the path to misery.
Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel shall come to thee, OIsrael.
Together we pray:
O Giver of Peace,
you invite us to beat our swords into ploughshares
and our spears into pruning hooks.
Enable us to translate your message
into our daily living
and to be people of peace and generosity.
Grant this in the name of Jesus
who comes to be peace with us,
and lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
Short reading Isaiah 45:8
Send victory like a dew, you heavens, and let the
clouds rain it down. Let the earth open for salvation to spring up. Let
deliverance, too, bud forth which I, the Lord, shall create.
Reflection
Harp Meditation
Responsory
Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel shall come to thee, OIsrael.
We stand for the Benedictus
Blest be the Lord the God of Israel,
who came to us; and brought us back from sin.
God raised for us a Saviour who is mighty;
his Saviour-Son from David’s house and line.
God promised this through holy men and women
who spoke for him down through the mists of time.
The Saviour comes to free us from our foes
from evil hands, from those who wish us ill.
So God’s great love for all his chosen people
is thus fulfilled; in these our present times.
God’s sacred oath his covenant most holy;
is called to mind, his promises made true.
Prayers and Intercessions
Christ is the wisdom and power of God and he delights to be with the children of men.
Trustingly let us call on him:
– Be close to us, Lord.
Lord Jesus Christ, you called us to your kingdom of light:
make us live our lives rightly, pleasing God in all things.
– Be close to us, Lord.
You stand among us, unrecognised by the world:
show your face to the whole human family.
– Be close to us, Lord.
You are closer to us than we are to ourselves:
keep strong in our hearts the trusting hope of salvation.
– Be close to us, Lord.
You are the spring from which holiness flows:
let us be holy and unstained on the day when you come again.
– Be close to us, Lord.
Our Father, who art in heaven . . . . . . .
Let us pray:
With sorrow, Lord, we acknowledge our weakness,
unworthy servants that we are.
Heal us and bring us joy
by the coming of your only Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever.
Amen.
May the Lord bless us and keep us from all harm; and
may he lead us to eternal life. AMEN

(Ecumenical) Morning Prayer in Season of Advent 2
December 8, 2011
(Ecumenical) Morning Prayer in Season of Advent 2
December 8th 2011
Hymn
Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart,
naught be all else to me save that thou art;
thou my best thought by day or by night,
waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.
Be thou my wisdom, thou my true word,
I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;
thou my great Father, I thy true son;
thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one.
High King of heaven , my victory won,
may I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s sun!
heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
still be my vision, O Ruler of all.
Collect for the Day (said by all)
Almighty God,
you have made us and all things to serve you,
now prepare the world for your rule.
Come quickly to save us,
so that wars and violence shall end,
and your children may live in peace,
honouring one another with justice and love;
though Jesus Christ
who lives in power with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God now and forever. Amen.
Psalm 126
When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion,
we were like those who dreamed.
Our mouths were filled with laughter,
our tongues with songs of joy.
Then it was said among the nations,
“The LORD has done great things for them.”
The LORD has done great things for us,
and we are filled with joy.
Restore our fortunes, LORD,
like streams in the Negev.
Those who sow with tears
will reap with songs of joy.
Those who go out weeping,
carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
carrying sheaves with them.
Scripture reading: Philippians 3: 12-16
Reflection
Prayers of Intercession
Almighty God, in this season give us grace to wait for your message that we might faithfully serve you.
Lord, show us your way
Help us to tell this wonderful story of Coming that others might hear the Good News.
Lord, give us voice to proclaim your love
Many are struggling with health issues or personal worries, O God,
help them to experience your peace.
Use us, O God, to bring your peace.
There is excitement in the voii9ces of the young as they prepare to celebrate Christmas
May we help them to understand your gift for them and all humanity.
By your great mercy help us to live good lives
as we await the coming of Christ again to be our judge,
Lord, have mercy upon us.
The Lord’s Prayer . . . . . . .
Hymn: When out of povert is born a dream that will not die . . . .
Blessing:
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord,
and
the blessing of God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
be with you all
now and always.

Ecumenical Morning Prayer for Advent 2011 week 1
December 3, 2011
We sing:
You alone are holy, and you alone are Lord,
and you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Let us pray together:
Loving God, as we begin the season of Advent,
open our hearts to prepare the way for Christ.
Help us to understand
That while we may look to you for healing and strength
You have already called us
And our lives are in your hand.
We ask this in the name of Jesus,
the Eternal Word,
who lives with you and the Holy Spirit forever.
Amen.
We sit
A reading from the Prophet Isaiah: 55: 6-11 (sung)
Seek the Lord while he is still to be found;
Call to him while he is still near.
Let the wicked man abandon his way,
the evil man his thoughts,
Let him turn back to the Lord who
will take pity on him,
To our God who is rich in forgiving.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, my ways not your ways –
it is the Lord who speaks.
Yes, the heavens are as far above earth
as my ways are above your ways,
my thoughts above your thoughts.
Yes as rain and snow come down from the heavens
and do not return without watering the earth,
giving it yield and growth, seed for sowing, bread for eating,
so the word that comes from my mouth does not return to me empty
without carrying out my will
and succeeding in what it was sent to do.
Scripture tells us that God spoke to Moses from the burning bush
and gave the people of Israel a pillar of fire as they made their way through the desert.
The psalmists said: ‘the Lord is my light, the Lord is my help’.
St John wrote that ‘the light shines in the darkness…’
Christ called himself the ‘Light of the World’
and the early church saw the lights they used at their evening prayers
as symbols of the presence of God.
So, lighting our candles from the Advent Candle which represents the hopes of the prophets,
we stand again to bless God and sing as people like us sang at Ephesus in the first century:
Canticle from the Letter to the Ephesians ( tune: Bunessan)
We bless the God and Father of Jesus
for he has blessed us freely in Christ.
He chose to lavish spiritual blessings
from highest heaven.
All this through Christ.
Long before founding all of creation,
God made his plan and chose us in Christ,
that we be holy, blameless and loving,
children adopted.
All this through Christ.
God’s will is always that we might love him,
source of all graces, witnessed in Christ;
love manifested, gift of redemption,
pardon for sinners.
All this through Christ.

The Intercessions
The Lord’s Prayer
Blest be the Lord: Canticle of Zechariah: Tune: Finlandia.
Blest be the Lord the God of Israel,who came to us; and brought us back from sin.
God raised for us a Saviour who is mighty; his Saviour-Son from David’s house and line.
God promised this through holy men and women who spoke for him down through the mists of time.
The Saviour comes to free us from our foes from evil hands, from those who wish us ill.
So God’s great love for all his chosen people is thus fulfilled in these our present times.
God’s sacred oath his covenant most holy, is called to mind, his promises made true.
God swore his oath to Abraham and Sarah, to give us all our freedom from all fear;
to save each one from those who seek to harm them, that we might serve in holiness of life,
that we might serve in justice and in truth, our ev’ry day in presence of the Lord.
For all our sins will freely be forgiven, the heart of God pours loving- kindness forth,
God comes to us like dawn comes to the sky bringing true light, where darkness once prevailed.
So all who live in fear of death’s dark shadow, God will now guide into the way of peace.
