Confiteor

I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
(And, striking our breast, we say)
through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints,

The Liturgy of the Word

Reading: from the prophet Malachi

Psalm 145

God is ever faithful, he is ever true.
God feeds the hungry, sets the prisoners free.

God brings light to darkness, raises up the low;
God protects the stranger, gives the weak his care.

God loves the just ones, thwarts the way of sin;
God will reign for ever, rule from age to age.

Reading:  Thessalonians

Alleluia, alleluia.  This is what the Lord asks of you, this, only this: to act justly, love tenderly,
and walk humbly with your God. Alleluia, alleluia.

Eucharistic Prayer 3

Preface
Bellahouston Sanctus

The Priest alone says:

You are indeed Holy, O Lord, and all you have created rightly gives you praise,
for through your Son our Lord Jesus Christ, by the power and working of the Holy Spirit,
you give life to all things and make them holy, and you never cease to gather a people to yourself,
so that from the rising of the sun to its setting a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name.

Therefore, O Lord, we humbly implore you:
by the same Spirit graciously make holy these gifts we have brought to you for consecration,
that they may become the Body and Blood of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ,
at whose command we celebrate these mysteries.

For on the night he was betrayed he himself took bread, and, giving you thanks,
he said the blessing, broke the bread and gave it to his disciples, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT, FOR THIS IS MY BODY, WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.

In a similar way, when supper was ended,
he took the chalice,  and, giving you thanks, he said the blessing,
and gave the chalice to his disciples, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT,
FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL COVENANT,
WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANY
FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.

DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

The mystery of faith.

The people continue, acclaiming:

We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection
until you come again, until you come.

Therefore, O Lord, as we celebrate the memorial of the saving Passion of your Son,
his wondrous Resurrection and Ascension into heaven, and as we look forward to his second coming,
we offer you in thanksgiving this holy and living sacrifice.

Look, we pray, upon the oblation of your Church and,
recognizing the sacrificial Victim by whose death you willed to reconcile us to yourself,
grant that we, who are nourished by the Body and Blood of your Son
and filled with his Holy Spirit, may become one body, one spirit in Christ.

May he make of us an eternal offering to you,
so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect,
especially with the most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
with your blessed Apostles and glorious Martyrs
with Saint Leo, St Mungo and with all the Saints,
on whose constant intercession in your presence we rely for unfailing help.

May this Sacrifice of our reconciliation, we pray, O Lord, advance the peace and salvation of all the world.
Be pleased to confirm in faith and charity your pilgrim Church on earth,
with your servant N. our Pope and N. our Bishop,1 the Order of Bishops,
all the clergy, and the entire people you have gained for your own.

Listen graciously to the prayers of this family, whom you have summoned before you:
in your compassion, O merciful Father,
gather to yourself all your children scattered throughout the world.

† To our departed brothers and sisters and to all who were pleasing to you at their passing from this life,
give kind admittance to your kingdom.
There we hope to enjoy for ever the fullness of your glory through Christ our Lord,
through whom you bestow on the world all that is good. †

Through him, and with him, and in him,
O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honour is yours, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Bellahouston Lamb of God . . . . .

Communion

I come that you may have life, life to the full, says the Lord.
I come that you may have life, life to the full, says the Lord.

Soul of my Saviour, sanctify my breast;
Body of Christ, be thou my saving guest;
Blood of my Saviour, bathe me in thy tide,
wash me with water flowing from thy side.

Strength and protection may thy Passion be;
O Blessed Jesus, hear and answer me;
deep in thy wounds, Lord, hide and shelter me;
so shall I never, never part from thee.

Guard and defend me from the foe malign;
in death’s dread moments make me only thine;
call me and bid me come to thee on high,
when I may praise thee with thy saints for aye.

A prayer for All Souls Day

God of the living,
in whose image we have been formed
with imperishable life as our destiny,
dispel from your people the fear of death
and awaken within us the faith that saves.
Bid us rise from the death of sin
to take our place in the new creation.
We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit
God for ever and ever.
Amen

Hindus and Christians and religious freedom—Hindu Feast of Diwali

Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, president of the Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue, has written a message to Hindus for the feast of Diwali. The message is entitled: ‘Christians and Hindus: together in Promoting Religious Freedom’. Diwali celebrates the victory of truth over falsehood, of light over darkness, of life over death, of good over evil. The celebrations, which being this year on 26 October, last three days and mark the beginning of a new year, a time for family reconciliation, especially among brothers and sisters, and adoration of the divine.

Religious freedom, the text reads, currently takes ‘centre stage in many places, calling our attention to those members of our human family exposed to bias, prejudice, hate propaganda, discrimination and persecution on the basis of religious affiliation. Religious freedom is the answer to religiously motivated conflicts in many parts of the world. Amid the violence triggered by these conflicts, many desperately yearn for peaceful coexistence and integral human development’.

The Message continues: ‘Religious freedom is numbered among the fundamental human rights rooted in the dignity of the human person. When it is jeopardised or denied, all other human rights are endangered. Religious freedom necessarily includes immunity from coercion by any individual, group, community or institution.

The Liturgy of the Eucharist

Preparation of Gifts: as people  bring down the gifts of bread & wine we sing verses from the Canticle in Ephesians 1:3-10:

We bless the God and Father of Jesus for he has blessed us freely in Christ.
He chose to lavish spiritual blessings from highest heaven.
All this through Christ.

Long before founding all of creation, God made his plan and chose us in Christ,
that we be holy, blameless and loving, children adopted.
All this through Christ.

God’s will is always that we might love him, source of all graces, witnessed in Christ;
love manifested, gift of redemption, pardon for sinners.
All this through Christ.

Out of his wisdom God chose to tell us his loving purpose set forth in Christ:
Time has its fullness, God and creation will be united.
All this through Christ.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER 2

The Lord be with you: And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts: We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God: It is right and just.

It is truly right and just, our duty and salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Father most holy,
through your beloved Son, Jesus Christ,
your Word through whom you made all things,
whom you sent as our Saviour and Redeemer,
incarnate by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin.
Fulfilling your will and gaining for you a holy people,
he stretched out his hands as he endured his Passion,
so as to break the bonds of death
and manifest the resurrection.
And so, with the Angels and all the Saints we declare your glory,
as with one voice we acclaim:

New St Andrew Sanctus:  Holy, holy, holy. Lord

You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,
so that they may become for us
the Body and Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

At the time he was betrayed
and entered willingly into his Passion,
he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it,
and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take this, all of you, and eat of it:
for this is my Body which will be given up for you.

In a similar way, when supper was ended,
he took the chalice and, once more giving thanks,
he gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take this, all of you, and drink from it:
for this is the chalice of my Blood,
the Blood of the new and eternal covenant,
which will be poured out for you and for many
for the forgiveness of sins.

Do this in memory of me.

Memorial:
When we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim your death, O Lord,
until you come again, until you come.

Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his Death and Resurrection,
we offer you, Lord, the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation,
giving thanks that you have held us worthy
to be in your presence and minister to you.

Humbly we pray that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ,
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
Remember, Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world,
and bring her to the fullness of charity,
together with N. our Pope and N. our Bishop and all the clergy.

Remember also our brothers and sisters
who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy:
welcome them into the light of your face.
Have mercy on us all, we pray,
that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
with the blessed Apostles, and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life,
and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.

Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honour is yours, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Lamb of God . . . . .

communion

Eat this bread, drink this cup, come to me and never be hungry.
Eat this bread, drink this cup.  Trust in me and you will not thirst.

I am the bread of life, the true bread sent from the Father.

Eat this bread…..

Your ancestors ate manna in the desert, but this is the bread come down from heaven.  Eat this bread……

Eat my flesh, and drink my blood, and I will raise you up on the last day.   Eat this bread……

Anyone who eats this bread will live forever. Eat this bread….

If you believe and eat this bread you will have eternal life.    Eat this bread…..

This is Mission Sunday

 Throughout the New Testament Jesus is a living example of  this love. His mission is to bring good news to the poor, to heal the sick, give sight to the blind and to set the captives free. Jesus came to bring about transformation in the lives of individuals. World Mission Sunday is a call to renew our commitment to love God and love our neighbour by opening our hearts to the great anguish and needs in our world today. Such a commitment will empower us to change the situation. All the baptised, who by their faith in Christ are committed to changing the world and helping the Kingdom of God to break through and transform our lives, are an integral part of this missionary task.

he stretched out his hands as he endured his Passion,
so as to break the bonds of death
and manifest the resurrection.
And so, with the Angels and all the Saints we declare your glory,
as with one voice we acclaim:

Kelvinhall :  Holy, holy, holy. Lord God of hosts…….

You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,
so that they may become for us
the Body and Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.At the time he was betrayed
and entered willingly into his Passion,
he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it,
and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take this, all of you, and eat of it:
for this is my Body which will be given up for you.In a similar way, when supper was ended,
he took the chalice and, once more giving thanks,
he gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take this, all of you, and drink from it:
for this is the chalice of my Blood,
the Blood of the new and eternal covenant,
which will be poured out for you and for many
for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this in memory of me.Kelvinhall Memorial:   Christ has died.  Christ is risen.  Christ will come again. . . . . . .Therefore,
as we celebrate the memorial of his Death and Resurrection,
we offer you, Lord,
the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation,
giving thanks that you have held us worthy
to be in your presence and minister to you.Humbly we pray that,
partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ,
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.Remember, Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world,
and bring her to the fullness of charity,
together with N. our Pope and N. our Bishop
and all the clergy.Remember also our brothers and sisters
who have fallen asleep
in the hope of the resurrection
and all who have died in your mercy:
welcome them into the light of your face.Have mercy on us all, we pray,
that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
with the blessed Apostles,
and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life,
and may praise and glorify you
through your Son, Jesus Christ.

Through him, and with him, and in him,
O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honour is yours,
for ever and ever.
Amen.

 The New Translation – the four presences of ChristThe Second Vatican Council reminded us of our ancient faith: Christ is always present in his church, especially in its liturgical celebrations. So, each time we come to Mass we experience the presence of Christ in four different ways:

1. Christ is present in the congregation – the people gathered together;
2. Christ is present in the person of the priest;
3. Christ is present in the Scriptures that we listen to during Mass;
4. Christ is present in the bread and wine when it becomes Christ’s Body and Blood.

The more we are able to understand and join in the Mass, the more we will come to love it. The new translation will help us to do that because hopefully the words we will now use will say more clearly what our faith is teaching us.
