6th Sunday of Easter May 29th  2011

  Thursday is the Feast of the Ascension.  Masses 10.00 and 7.00 pm.

 Jesus said to his disciples: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth” (Jn 14:15-17a).

Alleluia, sing to Jesus, his the sceptre, his the throne;
alleluia, his the triumph, his the victory alone:
hark the songs of peaceful Sion thunder like a mighty flood:
Jesus, out of every nation, hath redeemed us by his blood.

 Alleluia, not as orphans are we left in sorrow now;
alleluia, he is near us, faith believes, nor questions how;
though the cloud from sight received him when the forty days were o’er,
shall our hearts forget his promise, “I am with you evermore”?

Dunkeld Gloria: Glory to God in the highest. peace to his people, peace on earth

May he bless us and keep us, may he give us his peace.

 A new commandment I give unto you: that you love one another as I have loved you,
that you love one another,  as I have loved you.

By this shall all men know that you are my disciples –
if you have love one for another.
By this shall all men know that you are my disciples –
if you have love one for another.

A new commandment I give unto you: that you love one another as I have loved you,

St Andrew Gloria

Glory to God in the highest. peace to his people, peace on earth.

Lord God, Heavenly King, almighty God and Father,
We worship you, we give you thanks,
we praise you for your glory.
Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father.
Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us,
you are seated at the right hand of the Father, receive our prayer.
For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,
You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father.
Amen

 The 1st Reading: Act of the Apostles 6:1-7

 Psalm 32: He fills the earth with his love.

The word of the Lord is faithful, we trust him in all he does.
The Lord loves justice, justice and fairness, he fills the earth,
he fills the earth, he fills the earth with his love.
He fills the earth with his love.

 By his word the heav’ns were made; the breath of his mouth made the stars.
The Lord looks on those, those who revere him, on those who hope,
on those who hope, on those who hope in his love.
He fills the earth with his love.

 And so we await the Lord, the Lord is our help and shield.
We trust that your love will be upon us, we place all our hope,
we place all our hope, we place all our hope in you.
He fills the earth with his love.

“I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture” (Jn 10:9).

Introit:
I have risen. I am with you once more.
O God, you laid your hand upon me.
How marvellous your wisdom, Alleluia.

You search me, Lord, and know me.
Wherever I sit or stand, you read my inmost thoughts.
Whenever I walk or rest you k now where I have been.

I have risen. I am with you once more.
O God, you laid your hand upon me.
How marvellous your wisdom, Alleluia.

Alternative opening hymn:

Thine be the glory, risen conquering Son,
endless is the victory, thou o’er death hast won.
Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away,
kept the folded grave clothes, where Thy body lay.
Thine be the glory . . . . .

Lo, Jesus meets, risen from the tomb;
lovingly He greets us, scatters fear and gloom.
Let the church with gladness, hymns of triumph sing,
for her Lord is living, death hath lost its sting.
Thine be the glory . . . . .

St Andrew Gloria: Glory to God in the highest, peace to his people, peace on earth.

1st Reading: Acts 2: 14. 36-41

Psalm 22: His goodness shall follow me always to the end of my days.

The Lord is my shepherd: there is nothing I shall want
Fresh and green are the pastures where he gives me repose.
Near restful waters he leads me to revive my drooping spirits. His goodness . . . . . . .

In truth he guides me along the right path,
If I should walk in the valley of darkness no evil would I fear.
You are there with your crook and staff, with these you give me comfort. His goodness …..

You have prepared a banquet for me in the sight of my foes.
My head you have anointed with oil, my cup is overflowing. His goodness …..

Goodness and kindness shall surely follow me all the days of my life.
In the Lord’s own house shall I dwell for ever, forever and ever. His goodness …

2nd Reading: 1 Peter 2:20-25

Gospel acclamation: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Christ our Passover has been sacrificed. Let us celebrate. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia

Gospel: St John 10:1-10

Preparation of Gifts:

Now the green blade riseth from the buried grain,
wheat that in the dark earth many days hath lain;
Love lives again, that with the dead has been;
love is come again like wheat that springth green

In the grave they laid him, love whom men had slain,
thinking that never he would wake again,
laid in the earth like grain that sleeps unseen:
love is come again like wheat that springth green

Forth he came at Easter, like the risen grain,
he that for three days in the grave had lain;
quick from the dead my risen Lord is seen;
love is come again like wheat that springth green

MacMillan Sanctus : Holy, holy, holy Lord
Memorial:When we eat
Bellahouston Agnus Dei . . .

Communion: Lord, I am not worthy . . . . . .

O Godhead hid, devoutly I adore thee,
who truly art within the forms before me;
to thee my heart I bow with bended knee,
as failing quite in contemplating thee.

Sight, touch, and taste in thee are each deceived,
the ear alone most safely is believed:
I believe all the Son of God has spoken;
than truth’s own word there is no truer token.

God only on the cross lay hid from view;
but here lies hid at once the manhood too:
and I, in both professing my belief,
make the same prayer as the repentant thief.

Love of Christ has made us out of many one,
in our midst is dwelling God’s eternal Son.

Give him joyful welcome, love him and revere,
cherish one another with a love sincere.
As in Christ we gather discord has no part;
ours is but one spirit, but one mind and heart.

Bitterness now ended, let there be accord;
always with us dwelling be our God and Lord.
May we share the vision with the saints on high
of Christ’s matchless glory when we come to die.

Joy of all the blessed, be our heav’ly prize,
dwell with us forever, Lord of Paradise!
Where true love is dwelling, God is dwelling there,
love’s own loving presence love does ever share.

You search me, Lord,  and know me.  Wherever I sit or stand, you read my inmost    thoughts.
Whenever I walk or rest you k now where I have been.      I have risen…

Alternative opening hymn:

Thine be the glory, risen conquering Son,
endless is the victory, thou o’er death hast won.
Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away,
kept the folded grave clothes, where Thy body lay.   Thine be the glory . . . . .

 Lo, Jesus meets, risen from the tomb;
lovingly He greets us, scatters fear and gloom.
Let the church with gladness, hymns of triumph sing,
for her Lord is living, death hath lost its sting.   Thine be the glory . . . . .

Bellahouston Gloria: Gloria, Gloria in excelsis Deo.  Gloria, Gloria in excelsis Deo.

1st Reading: Acts 2: 42-47

 Psalm 117: This day was made by the Lord.  We rejoice and are glad.

Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, for his love has no end;
Let the sons of Israel say;  his love has no end.  This day was made…

 The Lord’s right hand has triumphed, his right hand raised me up.
I shall not die I shall live and recount his deeds.  This day was made…..

 The stone which the builders rejected has become the corner stone.
This is the work of the Lord, a marvel in our eyes.  This day was made….

2nd Reading: 1 Peter 1: 3-9

Gospel acclamation:
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Christ our Passover has been sacrificed.  Let us celebrate.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia

Gospel: St John 20:19-31

The Intercessions

For the Church: that we may give more generous attention to the Scriptures,
take a more active part at mass, and share our lives with others.
Lord, hear us

For the newly baptized or those received into full communion:
that they may be faithful disciples of Jesus,
may enrich the Church community with their gifts,
and be effective witnesses to Christ in their words and deeds.
Lord, hear us

For the whole human family: that we who have been created in the image and likeness of God
may respect God’s gift of life in one another.
Lord, hear us

For people throughout the world who live in any kind of distress. Lord, hear us

For all who bear the cross each day, especially the housebound and the terminally ill and their families:
Joseph Boyle, Margaret McCafferty, Margaret Whitelaw, Moira Montgomery, May Conroy, Alan Hutcheson,
Carol Gallagher, Jean Martin, Sadie Coll, Margaret Lanigan, Kenneth Fee, Peter Gibson, Cathy and Leo Gilbert,

Preparation  of Gifts:

We bless the God and Father Canticle Ephesians 1: 3-10

We bless the God and Father of Jesus  for he has blessed us freely in Christ.
He chose to lavish spiritual blessings from highest heaven.  All this through Christ.

Long before founding all of creation, God made his plan and chose us in Christ,
that we be holy, blameless and loving, children adopted.  All this through Christ.

God’s will is always that we might love him,  source of all graces, witnessed in Christ;
love manifested, gift of redemption, pardon for sinners.   All this through Christ.
