St Leo’s: St Andrew’s Day 2010

November 30, 2010

St Leo’s, Dumbreck

Mass of St Andrew’s Day
November 30th 2010

 When Christ our Lord to Andrew cried: “Come, thou, and follow me,”
The fisher left his net beside the sea of Galilee.
To teach the truth his Master taught, to tread the path he trod
Was all his will and thus he brought unnumbered souls to God.

 When Andrew’s hour had come and he was doomed, like Christ, to die,
He kissed his cross exultingly, and this his noble cry:
“O Noble Cross, O Precious Wood, I long have yearned for thee;
uplift me to my only good who died on thee for me.”

 St Andrew now in bliss above thy fervent prayers renew
That Scotland yet again may love the faith entire and true;
That I the cross allotted me may bear with patient love!
‘Twill lift me as it lifted thee  to reign with Christ above.

 Dunkeld Kyrie

The Bellahouston Gloria

 Psalm 18: Their voice has gone out, they fill the earth; the word of the Lord is heard.

 Gospel Acclamation
Alleluia, Alleluia. Alleluia, Alleluia.
Go make disciples of all the nations. I am with you to the end of time.
Go make disciples of all the nations. I am with you to the end of time.
Alleluia, Alleluia. Alleluia, Alleluia.

 The Preparation of the Gifts
Christ be near at either hand. Christ behind, before me stand.

St Andrew’s Day Intercessions

 We pray that as Jesus looked on Andrew as a friend and disciple,
So God will bless Scotland, our country, which has Andrew as a patron,
And will guide each of us to follow Andrew’s example of faithfulness.
Lord, hear us

 We pray for the churches in Scotland
aware of our many different traditions and understandings,
and aware also of our common faith and baptism,
that we may increasingly recognise your image and likeness
in each of our sisters and brothers,
and bear more faithful witness to the Gospel.
Lord, hear us

 We pray that the crosses of Jesus and of Andrew
may become an ever clearer sign of hope for people everywhere.
That people of other faiths and cultures
may grow closer  in respect and love for one another
and build up God’s kingdom of justice and peace.
Lord, hear us

 We pray for the sick in our families and community,
And for those who care for them.
We pray for our dead, and for those who mourn.
Lord, hear us

We cannot run a Nativity Play as we have far too few children. Instead we plan to involve the children at Children’s Liturgy and any others who wish to help in the “Mary’s Meal’s Backpack Project”. The project involves filling backpacks with a series of items that would be useful to a child going to school in an impoverished country. More on this later.

After Christmas. Burns Supper. Date for this is Friday 28th Jan 2011 (tbc). Can we put in appeal here. We have a number of very talented people in the parish who have given generously of their time and wit as speakers at the Burns Supper . It is always difficult to ask the same people every year. So does anyone know of a speaker who could do a turn for us this year ? Could it be you ? Do you have a perfect Immortal Memory squirrelled away which you could delight us all by delivering ? Please have a think about it and get in touch with Father Gerry or anyone from the Social Committee.

The Preparation  of Gifts : Canticle  from the Letter to the Colossians

 Let’s give thanks to God our Father who allows us all to share
in the joys of all the saints who live in light, as God’s true heirs.
God has brought us out of darkness to the kingdom of his Son:
Jesus is God’s most beloved who redeems us from our sin.

Jesus shows the face of God who can’t be grasped by human eye.
Jesus is the first expression of God’s love that unifies.
For in Jesus God created all we see and understand:
all in Jesus, all for Jesus, Jesus forms creation’s plan.

Jesus is the head of God’s Church; Jesus first in all the earth;
first to rise beyond the grave and first in ev’rything of worth;
for in Jesus all the fullness of our God has taken flesh;
heav’n and earth will come to wholeness through the saving blood of Christ.

The Preparation  of Gifts

I cannot tell how he whom angels worship should set his love upon the sons of men,
or why as shepherd he should seek  the wand’rers to bring them back, they know not how or when.
But this I know that he was born of Mary, when Bethlem’s manger was his only home,
and that he lived at Nazareth and laboured, and so the Saviour, Saviour of the world is here.

 I cannot tell how he will win the nations, how he will claim his earthly heritage,
how satisfy the needs and aspirations of east and west, of sinner and of sage.
But this I know: all flesh shall see his glory, and he shall reap the harvest he has sown,
and some glad day his son shall shine in splendour when he the Saviour, Saviour of the world is known.

 I cannot tell how all the lands shall worship, when at his bidding every storm is stilled,
or who can say how great the jubilation when all the hearts of men with love are filled.
But this I know: the skies will thrill with rapture, and myriad, myriad human voices sing,
 and earth to heaven, and heaven to earth will answer: “At last the Saviour; Saviour of the world, is King!”

 St Bride Sanctus with the memorial: Christ has died. .  and Lamb of God. . .

 Communion: As we eat this bread and drink this cup, though many we are one;

Gospel: Luke 20:27-38 or 20:27, 34-38

For all Christians: that we may be open whatever God calls us to do in witness to the truth and in loving service of other.   Lord, hear us . . .

For all who are fearful of death: that they may discover God’s faithful and life-giving presence with them, and grow in trust of God who is faithful to us in both life and death.  Lord, hear us

For the well-being of all the people of our country, that in times of economic hardship those who are most vulnerable will not be further disadvantaged.  Lord, hear us

For peace throughout the world, and particularly in Israel and Palestine, and in Iraq and Afghanistan.    Lord, hear us

For all who are ill and for those who care for them, that they may experience the healing touch of God in their lives:
including Eileen Donaghy, Margaret McCafferty, Moira Montgomery, John Quinn,  Alan Hutcheson,Gallagher, Jean Martin,  Sadie Coll, Margaret Lanigan, Kenneth Fee, Peter Gibson, Cathy and Leo Gilbert,  Linda Giulianotti, Kathleen Mallon, Joe McGhee, Margaret Padden, Liam Brogan,  Fr Joseph Chambers, Cathy Bruce, Jane Henderson, Mary McKenna, Anne & Bernard McNiffe,  Mary O’Hare,  Anne McMahon, Margaret Duffy,  and Mark Callaghan.    Lord, hear us

 We remember those who have died including
Betty Pope, Rosemary Quinn, Gordon McCoard, Molly Rafferty, and Brother Paul Peter,
all those whose anniversary falls about now, including  Bernard Corrigan and Toby Rowe,
all our deceased friends and relatives and fellow parishioners.
We also pray for those who have been injured or killed while serving in the armed forces.  Lord, hear us . .

 The Preparation  of Gifts

Though  Jesus Christ was in the form of God,
he did not count such equality to be grasped.

Instead, he freely emptied out himself,
and took the form of a servant, was born like us.

In human form he chose humility,
and gave himself up to dying upon a cross.

Because of this our God exalted him, and raised him
gave him a name above every name.

At Jesus’ name now every knee should bow
be they in heav’n or on earth or creation’s depths.

St Gregory with the memorial: Christ has died. .  and Lamb of God. . .

 Communion:
I come that you may have life, life to the full, says the Lord.
I come that you may have life, life to the full, says the Lord.

Where true love is dwelling, God is dwelling there. Love’s own loving presence love does ever share.
Love of Christ has made us out of many one. In our midst is dwelling God’s eternal Son.

 Give him joyful welcome, love him and revere,  cherish one another with a love sincere.
As in Christ we gather discord has no part; ours is but one spirit but one mind and heart.

May we share the vision with the saints on high, of Christ’s matchless glory when we come to die.
Where true love is dwelling, God is dwelling there. Love’s own loving presence love does ever share.

DUBLIN MARATHON FOR YORKHILL

Eileen Duffy writes:  This was my 3rd Marathon, but they don’t get any easier! The good people of Dublin were unbelievably LOUD in their support of the runners. We had perfect weather conditions, very sunny, bright & cold. My finish time was 4 hrs 36 mins, a personal best for me. I have probably raised about £600 but I will confirm the actual total. Thank you all once again for your donations and very kind support.

HALLOWEEN

Social Committee:  Halloween Party
A big vote of thanks to all who helped out at the Halloween party last Sunday. There was an excellent turn out and, thanks to the generous support of so many parishioners, the children had a great time. There are plenty of edible, strangely coloured Halloween goodies left so come and have a spooky cookie or a witch’s chocolate finger with your tea after mass.

May God  may be their unending joy.                                   Lord, hear us

 For all those who had to suffer much in life from sickness, injustice or poverty,
that their sorrow may now be at an end and there may be no end to their happiness.                                                                          Lord, hear us

 For the dead who had to go a lonely way through life because none or few cared for them,
or because their children or partners deserted them;
or their own circumstances isolated them;
that now they may discover the joy of the friendship of the saints in heaven.                                     Lord, hear us

 And finally for ourselves, that we may help and support one another on the journey through life,
that we may go the Lord’s way travelling side by side.                                                                                             Lord, hear us

 May the souls of the faithful departed . . . . .

St Leo’s: Feast of All Saints

November 1, 2010

St Leo the Great, Glasgow
1st November 2010

The Feast of All Saints

 Entrance

 Holy God, we praise thy name;  Lord of all, we bow before thee!
All on earth thy sceptre claim.
All in heaven above adore thee.
Infinite thy vast domain, everlasting is thy reign.

Hark! the loud celestial hymn, angel choirs above are raising;
cherubim and seraphim,
in unceasing chorus praising,
fill the heavens with sweet accord, holy, holy, holy Lord!

 Holy Father, Holy Son, Holy Spirit, three we name thee,
while in essence only one
undivided God we claim thee;
and adoring bend the knee, while we own the mystery.

 St Andrew Gloria

 The Liturgy of the Word

 Reading

 Psalm 23  : He is the king of glory.  Let him enter in.

 The Lord’s is the earth and its fullness, the world and all its peoples.
He it was who set it on the seas, on the waters he made it firm.
He is the king of glory! Let him enter in.

 Who shall climb the mountain of the Lord?
Who shall stand in his holy place?  The pure in heart, whose hands are clean,
and who does not seek worthless things.
He is the king of glory! Let him enter in.

 He shall be blessed by the Lord, rewarded by God, his Saviour.
Such the ones who seek your face, who seek Jacob’s God.
He is the king of glory! Let him enter in.

 Reading:

 Gospel Acclamation: Alleluia,  alleluia.
Christus vincit, Christus regnat, Christus, Christus imperat.
Alleluia, alleluia.

Dunkeld Lamb of God

Communion:
Eat this bread, drink this cup, come to me and never be hungry;
Eat this bread, drink this cup, come to me and you will not thirst.

 For all the saints who from their labours rest,
who thee by faith before the world confessed,
thy name, O Jesus be for ever blest.  Alleluia, alleluia!

 Thou wast their rock, their fortress, and their might;
thou, Lord, their captain in the well-fought fight;
thou in the darkness drear their one true light.  Alleluia, alleluia!

 But lo! There breaks a yet more glorious day;
The saints triumphant rise in bright array:
the King of glory passes on his way.  Alleluia, alleluia!
