Dunkeld Gloria

 Reading I: Ecclesiastes 1:2; 2:21-23

Psalm 89   Fill us now with the joy of your love.

Give us wisdom of heart while we live.  Let us see just how short is our life!
Be not angry with our foolish ways.  Show us pity, O Lord, and forgive.
Fill us now with the joy of your love.

In the morning fill us with your love to rejoice and be glad all our days.
Give us joy that will balance the grief that we felt when misfortunes were near.
Fill us now with the joy of your love.

May your servants engage in your work, and our children be graced with your love.
Let your kindness be seen in our lives.  Bring success to the work that we do.
Fill us now with the joy of your love.
Reading II: Colossians 3:1-5, 9-11

Alleluia, alleluia.  Alleluia, alleluia.   I am the way, the truth and the life.
No-one can come to the Father, except through me.   Alleluia, alleluia.  Alleluia, alleluia.

 Gospel: Luke 12:13-21

For a spirit of gratitude: that we may appreciate all the gifts that God has given us and be generous in sharing them with those around us.
Lord hear us

For freedom of heart: that we may never be taken in by the illusions of wealth, fame, power, or control, nor allow these to dominate our lives.
Lord hear us

For all who have responsibility in teaching or guiding other people:  that God will guide them in helping others to recognize their gifts, what they can do with their lives, and the deepest truth that God has planted in their hearts.
Lord hear us

For all who bear the burden of poverty: that God will sustain them each day and help us to be generous with our gifts and possessions.
 Lord hear us

For all who are ill:  including Margaret McCafferty, Gordon McCoard, John Quinn,  Carole Gallagher, Jean Martin,  Sadie Coll, Margaret Lanigan, Kenneth Fee, Peter Gibson, Cathy and Leo Gilbert,  Linda Giulianotti, Kathleen Mallon, Joe McGhee, Margaret Padden, Liam Brogan,  Fr Joseph Chambers, Cathy Bruce, Jane Henderson, Mary McKenna,  Jean Martin, Anne & Bernard McNiffe,  Mary O’Hare,  Anne McMahon,  and Mark Callaghan.
Lord, hear us

We remember those who have died including Carol Glancy, Rita Thomson, Fr John Roberts, Canon Sean bennet, and those whose anniversary falls about now, including Catherine Young and John McCallion.  We also remember and pray for those who have been injured or killed while serving in the armed forces.
Lord, hear us

The Preparation  of Gifts:

Make me a channel of your peace.  Where there is hatred, let me bring your love.. . . . .

Jubilee Sanctus and Memorial and  St Andrew Lamb of God

The Invitation: Lord, I am not worthy. . . . . . . . .

My soul proclaims the Lord my God, my Spirit sings his praise!
He looks on me, he lifts me up, and gladness fills my days.

 All nations now will share my joy, his gifts he has outpoured;
his little one he has made great; I magnify the Lord.

For those who love his holy name, his mercy will not die.
His strong right arm puts down the proud and lifts the lowly high.

He fills the hungry with good things, the rich he sends away.
The promise made to Abraham is filled to endless day.

Great Scottish Swim for Yorkhill

‘A friend & I have agreed to swim one mile in the Loch at Strathclyde Park on Saturday 21st August, as part of the Great Scottish Swim. (one mile is the equivalent of 64 lengths at a swimming pool), My friend’s nephew has been treated at Yorkhill since he was born 3 years ago and he still attends regularly.  I know you will all agree that this is a very worthwhile cause and hope you will be able to sponsor me in my very first open-water swim!’         With thanks, Eileen Duffy

Congratulations to the family of Eilidh Louise who was baptised last week.   Picture next week – I hope.

If you would like to attend the Mass with the Pope in Bellahouston Park on 16th September, please ensure that you fill in the form – we have to apply for the tickets this week.

The St Mungo Singers begin the next session on Sunday 8th August.  Mass and short business meeting followed by rehearsal focusing on the Papal mass at Bellahouston.  There will be a regearsal on Sunday 15th August at the usual time, but a quorum of singers will also sing for the Ordination Mass in St Mary’s at 11.30.

Cantors,  please pick up your list of psalms for the next few months from the organ.

Mass at Bellahouston on 16th September with Pope Benedict 16th

St Leo’s parish has been allocated 92 places at the Mass.   Further details will be made available next week, but meantime we need to have some idea of who would like  a place at the Mass.  Please note that everyone will need to be in their place by 3.00 on September 16th.   The Mass is, of course, out of doors, and so we all need to take    account of the weather.  Seating is not provided so we need to think of how we handle that!   So that the cost of getting there is shared out equally across the country – that means we contribute the same amount as people coming from the Orkneys, the Western Isles, the Scottish Borders etc – each parish is asked to provide £20 per   pilgrim.  We will need to discuss how we can raise that amount and try to ensure that it is fun doing so!  Maybe we could have a ’super-fete’ as part of it!

Congratulations to Eddie and Margaret Murtagh on their  anniversary – 60 years and they are still smiling at each other and at all of us!
They are seen here with grandson Brendan – the organist from Australia who played for us recently.

  A Reading:   Isaiah 66:10-14c

Psalm 32:  He fills the earth with his love.

The word of the Lord is faithful, we trust him in all he does.
The Lord loves justice, justice and fairness, he fills the earth,
he fills the earth, he fills the earth with his love.
He fills the earth with his love.

By his word the heav’ns were made; the breath of his mouth made the stars.
The Lord looks on those, those who revere him, on those who hope,
on those who hope, on those who hope in his love..
He fills the earth with his love.

And so we await the Lord, the Lord is our help and shield.
