Haiti earthquake update
January 14, 2010
Aid is getting through on the ground through the international grouping of Catholic aid agencies Caritas Internationalis. These photos show Caritas workers in Haiti distributing supplies in a town called Leogane, 90% of which was destroyed in the earthquake. All photos are courtesy of N. Fischer, Caritas Switzerland.
The initial target of the Caritas workers is to help 50,000 survivors with water, sanitation, shelter and food. Parishes are helping provide basic services in camps for survivors. Food packages are being distributed and water storage containers, water purification tablets, hygiene kits, cooking utensils and plastic sheeting are being prepared in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
